Ivanishvili/Kuprashvili Bureau Continues Attack on Georgian NGOs

Update: On August 20, 2025, Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) received a similar letter from the Anti-Corruption Bureau. EPRC joined the joint statement of the NGOs.

On August 11, 2025, six organizations received another letter from the Anti-Corruption Bureau, accusing us of violating the so-called "Law on Registration of Foreign Agents”, threatening us with criminal liability and demanding explanations as to why we did not register as agents.

In accordance with our repeatedly publicly stated position, we reiterate that we will not register to represent the interests of a foreign country. We are independent Georgian NGOs operating under our own charters. Our mission is to protect the rights of women, children, workers, persons with disabilities, refugees and all oppressed people; our mission is to observe elections, expose corruption and disinformation, protect democracy and help the Georgian people. We serve only the interests of our people and our country. According to the standards of American FARA, of which this law is supposedly a copy, we do not have the right to register in this registry. We will send the relevant legal document to the Ivanishvili-Kuprashvili bureau on this matter.

In the style of Putin's Russia, the persecution of independent NGOs and free media aims to end democracy. But we continue to work and will not leave the Georgian people without support. We will fight until Georgia becomes the free, democratic and EU member state that the Georgian people deserve.

Once again, we declare that we are not going to live by Russian laws and continue to fight to protect the rights of the Georgian people.
