In partnership with the United Nations Association of Georgia (UNAG) and with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Media Development Foundation (MDF) participates in the implementation of the Promoting Integration, Tolerance and Awareness (PITA) Program. Within the framework of the program, Media Development Foundation (MDF) conducts media monitoring with the aim to reveal hate speech and its sources in media and public discourse.
The present report covers the period from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017. The subjects of monitoring were media outlets as well as other sources – politicians, clergy, civil organizations and representatives of society.
The first part of the report provides key findings and methodology of the study, overview of hate speech regulations. The second part of the report presents total quantitative data by types of hate speech, while the third part discusses sources of hate speech and messages. The final part provides profiles of main sources of hate speech.
